Rider Questions:
What is the minimum age to participate?
For the Sonnet and Short Story routes anyone 15 and older can ride. Cyclists under age 18 must have their release form signed by a parent or legal guardian. For the Classic and Epic Full Loop ride, participants must be 18 or older.
Does this mean that children are not allowed on the ride?
Children under 15 will not be allowed on the cycling path. However, children and families are welcome to stay at the park at Torry Island and enjoy the day while waiting for their cycling relatives. However, all children at Torry Island must be in the care of an adult friend or relative. Children cannot be left alone in the park area.
What will be the routes for the various rides?

Are entry fees or donations refundable?
Registration fees and donations are non-refundable and non-transferable, no exceptions.
What should a cyclist bring the day of the event?
A helmet is required for all cyclists. In addition to your bike, you should bring a cell phone, spare tire and repair kit, water bottles, snacks, insect repellant and sunscreen. Though there will be food, water and emergency services available at aid stations, cyclists should be prepared to be as self-sufficient as possible when undertaking long rides.
What will be supplied to the riders?
A light breakfast will be available, as well as a meal for the returning cyclists. Aid stations along the way will supply water and other refreshments. Every cyclist will receive an event T-shirt, and all participants who finish the ride will receive a medal.
Can I purchase a Loop the Lake cycling jersey?
Yes, you can reserve your own official Loop the Lake cycling jersey for only $99 when you register. Jerseys ordered before February 1st will be distributed on the day of the event.
Can I ship my bike, have it assembled and delivered to me before the ride, and picked up after the ride?
Yes! Through Bike America we offer white glove bike assembly, delivery to you, pick-up after the ride, and shipping back to you. The price is $150 plus shipping. For further details contact: Mr. Lee Fox at 561-391-0800; at Bike America in East Boca
Are bike rentals available?
Yes. Through Bike America you can rent 2010 carbon fiber road bikes. The price is $60/day with a two-day minimum, or $200 for a week. Bikes should be reserved ahead of time and may be picked up at Bike America in Boca Raton. Your contact is Mr. Lee Fox at 561-391-0800; at Bike America in East Boca
Is this a supported ride?
Yes. We will provide support at stops and mobile assistance from bike shops and staff vehicles. Local law enforcement presence is subject to specific key locations of the course.
What happens if I break down on the ride?
Mobile mechanics provided by local bike shops may be available to help fix flat tires and other repair concerns for all rides, but riders should try their best to be self-sufficient.
What if it rains on the day of the ride?
The event will go on, even in spite of rain. Riders and volunteers are encouraged to seek shelter in the event of lightning. For the latest developments as well as weather conditions for the day of event, check the event website: www.loopthelakeforliteracy.org.

Are you still seeking sponsors for the event?

If I cannot ride but want to be involved, how can I help?
We definitely need volunteers to help with fundraising and securing sponsorships. Visit the website to see the sponsorship opportunities available. Volunteers will also be needed the day of the event. Go to the website and indicate that you would like to volunteer.
How do I volunteer?
Part of being a volunteer is loving what you're doing. If supporting healthy lifestyles is something that you're passionate about or something that inspires you, then you are in the right place. Please email us at events@excelsportsevents.com or complete the volunteer form, informing us of your full name, age, shirt size, and additional contact information. If under 18 years of age, a parent/guardian will need to sign a consent form. Our Volunteer Coordinator will be contacting you to confirm your participation and to provide you with more details about your activities during the event.
How do I register or make a donation right now?
To register, click the Register Now or Donate Now button on your right, and you’ll be redirected to Active.com, where you will be prompted to create a new MyActive account. This simple process takes only a few moments. Your Username is your e-mail address, and you’ll choose a password. Once you’re logged into this fully secure site, you can register for the event or make a donation. Through Active.com, you can sponsor friends and raise funds for the cause even if you are out of town or otherwise unable to participate.
General Questions:
Can I register the day of the event?
Yes, if there are still registration slots available, you can register on the event day at an additional cost of $20 over the last online registration amounts. You must arrive two hours before the start times. Online registration as early as possible helps us plan a more satisfying event for everyone.
Is every rider required to raise funds?
The only financial requirement is the registration fee of $85 for the Sonnet, the Short Story and the Classic rides and $145 for the Epic - Full Loop ride. The main purpose for the event, however, is to raise funds for literacy to support the work of the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County. Therefore, every cyclist is highly encouraged to raise funds. The Active website also offers useful tips for sending emails and social network notices to your friends and family members. All funds raised will be tax deductible to the full extent the law allows.
All cyclists are encouraged to create their own fundraising page on Active to raise funds for literacy. Anyone raising $75, above the registration, will get a Loop the Lake hat. Anyone raising $400, above the registration, will get a Loop the Lake jersey! Start your fundraising page today!
Can teams register as a group?
Teams are definitely encouraged to participate as a group. The team with the largest number of members, "Largest Loop Team", will receive an award and recognition. The team that raises the largest amount for literacy, The Largest Team Fundraiser", will also receive an award and recognition. A team can be as few as two people.
Individuals who are not part of a team are also encouraged to raise funds for literacy. Funds raised by individual riders will qualify those individuals for the Loop the Lake hat ($75 above the registration fee) and jersey ($400 above the registration gee), and make them eligible for the "Largest Individual Fundraiser" award. Is there overnight lodging available nearby?
There is lodging available in the Belle Glade area as well as in nearby West Palm Beach and Royal Palm Beach. Check the event website for motels in the area.
